The Maryland Foods Everyone Should Try

Around here, these aren't just dishes on a menu. They're the foods Marylanders grow up eating, bring to family gatherings and recommend when someone asks, “What should I try while I'm here?”

01 / Baltimore favorite

Baltimore-Style Pit Beef

If you're from Baltimore, you know pit beef. Beef cooked over a hot pit, sliced thin and piled high on a roll—often with onion and horseradish. It's our own style of barbecue, made famous by the pit stands around town.

Our pit beef is a great way to feed a visiting group: rolls, toppings and sides, with everyone building a sandwich the way they like it. Simple, filling and definitely Baltimore.

Available Monday–Friday for catering.

02 / Chesapeake classic

Maryland Crab Cakes

Maryland and blue crabs go hand in hand. A good Maryland crab cake is all about the crab—not a pile of filler. It's one of the first things people want to try when they visit the Chesapeake region.

Want to make an impression on out-of-town guests? Put crab cakes on the menu. They're a Maryland favorite for a reason, and a great alternative to another ordinary office lunch.

A little Chesapeake comfort

Maryland Crab Soup or Cream of Crab? Good Question.

Ask a room full of Marylanders which crab soup is better and you'll probably get two answers. One's hearty and tomato-based. The other's rich and creamy. Both belong on the table.

The hearty one

Maryland Crab Soup

Maryland Crab Soup is the hearty one: a tomato-based broth with crab meat, vegetables and plenty of Chesapeake-style seasoning. It's the kind of soup you'll find at crab houses and family gatherings all over the state.

Why Maryland loves it: Blue crab, vegetables and bold seasoning in one bowl. It's comfort food with a little kick, and it tastes like home to a lot of people around here.

The rich one

Cream of Crab Soup

Cream of Crab goes in a different direction. Rich, smooth and loaded with crab flavor, it's the soup people order when they're in the mood for something a little more indulgent.

Why Maryland loves it: It's a crab-house classic that lets the sweet flavor of crab take center stage. Around here, choosing between the red soup and the creamy one can be a tough call.

Can't decide? Some Marylanders mix the two and call it half-and-half. Ask us about crab soup options and availability for your catering order.
